SERVICES SELECTION BOARD (SSB) SELECTION PROCESS 

    • The SSB uses a comprehensive assessment approach over 5 days, based on three dimensions- Mansa – Thoughts, Vacha – Words, Karmana – Actions 
    • Each day at SSB is unique, featuring a series of 19 tests / activities designed to evaluate :
    • 4 Factors (Mind, Heart / Concience, Dynamic Interaction of Head & Heart) & 15 Officer Like Qualities (Effective Intelligence, Reasoning Ability, Organising Ability, Power of Expression, Social Adaptability, Co-operation, Sense of Responsibility, Initiative, Self Confidence, Speed of Decision, Ability to Influence the Group, Liveliness, Determination, Courage & Stamina) in candidates.
    • All tests are assessed by Psychologist (Psych), Group Testing Officer (GTO) & Interviewing Officer (IO) posted at SSB Centres.

DAY 1 : SCREENING – Psych, IO & GTO

1.Documentation Verification – Incorrect documents lead to candidate disqualification.

2. Officer Intelligence Rating Test (OIR)
          Mode                   : Online or Offline
          Verbal                 : 50 Questions, 30 Minutes
          Non-Verbal       : 50 Questions, 30 Minutes

3. Picture Perception & Description Test (PP&DT)
         Observe the picture        : 30 Seconds
         Detail filling                        : 1 Minute
         Story writing                      : 4 Minutes
         Story Narration & Discussion Test. Groups of 8 narrate and discuss                  their stories.

4. Results Announcement. Only candidates who pass the screening stay for further assessment.

5. Personal Information Questionnaire (PIQ) Filling

DAY 2 : PSYCHOLOGY TESTS – Psych

1. Thematic Apperception Test (TAT)
          Observe the picture    : 30 Seconds
          Total Pictures                : 12 Pictures (11 Hazy + 1 Blank)
          Story writing                  : 4 Minutes per picture

2. Word Association Test (WAT)
          Total Words                   : 60 words
         Sentence Writing          : 15 Seconds per word

3. Situation Reaction Test (SRT)
        Total Situations              : 60
        Solution Writing             : 30 Minutes for 60 SRTs

4. Self Description (SD)
        5 Questions         : 15 Minutes
     To Write          : Self appraisal & Parent, Teacher, Friend / Colleague Opinion

DAY 3 : GROUP TASKS – GT

1.Group Discussion (GD)
            Discussion on two topics sequentially.

2.Group Planning Exercise (GPE)
           Teams solve a scenario using a sand model.

3.Progressive Group Task (PGT)
           Outdoor team obstacle negotiation with helping material.

4.Group Obstacle Race (GOR)
          4 or 2 Teams compete by negotiating 6 Obstacles together as a race.

5.Lecturette
         Speak on one of four topics for 3 minutes.

6.Half Group Task (HGT)
        Similar to PGT, but in the size of the group is half.

DAY 4 : GROUP TASKS 2 – GTO

1. Individual Obstacles (IO)
           To negotiate 10 obstacles individually & earn max 55 marks in 3 mins.

2.Command Task (CT)
      Candidate as a commander negotiates an obstacles with a small team.

3.Final Group Task (FGT)
          Similar to PGT but level is difficult, complete group needs to negotiate.

DAY 5 : INTERVIEW & CONFERENCE –
IO, GTO & Psych

1.Personal Interview
          Conducted individually by IO, starting from Day 1to Day 4.

2.Conference
          Assessment panel reviews each candidate’s performance together.

3.Final Results
          Announcement of candidates who have cleared the SSB.
